about:
WIB in India first organised our WIB vigil in 1992 after the Babri Masjid was brought down in a mob action by Hindu fundamentalists. This brought in severe communal clashes between the Hindus and Muslims in whole of India. Since the nationwide violence had backing of mainstream right wing political parties the two communities which had shared a common history for centuries stand clearly divided today. In fact there are famous religious worshipping places where people who do not belong to that particular religious faith also participate in the festivals. When such is the historical reality of different religious communities living together so long these calculated kind of moves to create confusion for the self gain of the politicians has lot of planning going into it. This is the brief history of how WIB India vigils started.
Our Thursday vigil is is an ongoing action. Though each time the focus may change according to different issues be it local, national, international. We have stood in Solidarity with WIB groups who are fighting against many issues including those issues in our vigil. Be it the war in Bosnia, or the Israeli occupation, war in Iran, Afghanistan and on the US sanctions and many many more issues.
