Kalamazoo Women in Black stand every Sunday with Kalamazoo Nonviolent Opponents of War (KNOW) infront of the Federal Building on 410 West Michigan Avenue in downtown Kalamazoo, holding signs that read, WOMEN IN BLACK MOURNING ALL VICTIMS OF WAR AND OCCUPATION. What is the significance of women, silently assembled, with head covering and dressed in black? Women bear the greatest emotional burden from war. Our covered heads and black dress symbolize the deep sadness of mourning the needless death of loved ones. Silence expresses the grief of shattered lives too devastating for words. Women in Black, from various religions and nationalities assembled, silently embody their heartrending prayer for peace. To join us just dress in black and stand with us on any given Sunday, year round. We also walk together in the Memorial Day parade.
